In nature, cadmium sulphide occurs as a mineral and it is found in a crystalline or shapeless form. The shapeless form of cadmium sulphide is yellow, orange or brown.
Cadmium sulphide is not soluble in water but soluble in cold diluted HCI or sulphuric acid. Cadmium oxide easily decomposes and dissolves in nitric acid which has not been diluted too much.
Cadmium sulphide is a pigment widely used for painting, coloring soap, fabrics and paper. Bright yellow cadmium sulphide is a fluorescent pigment.
