PVP iodine is a yellowish-brown to reddish-brown amorphous powder.
Pvp iodine is soluble in water, ethyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, polyethylene glycol and glycerol.
PVP iodine is used as antiseptic, disinfectant for external use. In surgery, povidone is used as a disinfectant or sterilizer for washing hands and surgical material and in the preparation of damaged skin and mucous membranes before surgery. PVP-I is also used to treat skin infections, fungal and pyoderma and as a disinfectant for external use. In animal husbandry, PVP iodine is also used as a sanitizing and disinfecting udder in dairy animals, pre and post milking. PVP iodine is the basis of numerous medical surgical aids (PMC).
