Indium trichloride is a white crystalline powder.
Indium trichloride is very soluble in water and in tetrahydrofuran (THF).
Indium trichloride is the most common soluble indium derivative. Indium reacts quickly with chlorine to give the trichloride. It is a Lewis acid used in acylation reactions, such as Friedel-Crafts and Diels-Alder. Indium trichloride is used for metal surface treatment.
