Disodium wolframate occurs as white odourless crystalline powder.
Sodium tungstate is very soluble in water, while insoluble in numerous organic solvents.
This sodium salt of orthotungstate is useful as a source of tungsten for chemical synthesis. It is an intermediate in the conversion of tungsten ores to the metal. Disodium wolframate is used in organic chemistry as a catalyst, and also in the textile, dye and plating industries.
