The solution's emission maximum is 605nm, with excitation maxima for unbound and DNA-bound states at 210nm, 285nm, 470nm, 330nm, and 500nm, respectively. To facilitate usage, simply add five drops of the solution to 500 milliliters of water, buffer, or electrophoresis running buffer for effective staining of nuclei or nucleic acids, resulting in a visible red coloration.
