This medium adheres to the ISO 7899-2 standard and, upon verification, provides a reliable means of identifying these bacteria. The unique composition of this medium facilitates esculin hydrolysis and subsequent reaction with ferric citrate, resulting in brown to black colored colonies around which the medium will also stain brown.
